In this life long study of family, leadership and entrepreneurism, many of my mentors were family. The very large entrepreneurial family I was born into had plenty of preachers and teachers on how I should live and do business. Pleased to say they were mostly right about many things - even unbeknownst to themselves they echoed a lot of biblical principles at least in paraphrased form through their F bombs and other adjectives.
As a student of life, I continue to ask the who, what, where, when, why and how and press into the good, the bad, the ugly and the profound that feeds into the wisdom or better yet life-skills that produce the good life we were born to enjoy.
The virtues of the Alpha who can consolidate a group and their talents to achieve a set goal or vision is a valuable dynamic to study. However, this Sigma soul has its personal and professional goals and they may lead to something different than what my Alpha counterparts would enjoy. AND THAT'S OK.
Heaven will not be a cookie cutter heaven and nor is the little slices of heaven we forge be that way in this life.
Our goals and motivations are different. Why does the Sigma form a team; rally people together for a cause? We love our alone time. Our fortress of solitude after a mission has been fulfilled is our reward. I don't need the social affirmation of others nor, do I need others validation.
When the scales are tipped or a problem or conflict arises; we seek to bring balance back to the force, return to the Bat Cave and recharge our batteries with quiet deep thinking. For me it is Word, Worship, Work, Workout and repeat. Dwelling in the Secret Place is my personal happiness. The Alpha needs the team around him to recharge and that has its benefits and its pitfalls because we live in a world where their are evil entities that love to steal, kill and destroy others for what they covet. The Sigma employs others for a goal, the team isn't an end in itself; the goal is, it's a means to an end. I venture to say there are types who work better with an Alpha leader than a Sigma leader and vice versa.
A Sigma's subordinate doesn't desperately need to belong to a group for affirmation and doesn't want to have their own tribe to lead. Nor do they want a demonstrative dictator control freaking them on every thought, word or deed. They love the thought of doing a job for X amount of time then going their own way for a season or two.
I would call these precious souls - Sigma-Betas, Sigma-Deltas and Sigma-Omegas. They do better as contract players for business or ministries. Many are tradesmen and self employed. I have met many of them on Film sets and live-productions and construction sites.
They may not be a Sigma's Sigma but they have a Sigma soul. They are loyal and private and once they trust you - you have a friend for life, that will drop everything when called on them. They are Wyatt Earp's, Doc Holiday or Professor X's Wolverine, The cowboy that rides in, kills the bad guy and rides off into the sun set because they are not desperately trying to find themselves in others; they already know themselves by the grace of God - THESE ARE MY PEOPLE!
